I want to know about circuit & limit of Bombay stock exchange ? How to play & know the implication & complition of the circuit ?
1Â Â Â Â Â Â That’s the highest percentage a stock can go up or down in one day.
2Â Â Â Â Â Â Circuit Filter or Circuit Breaker as many know it means the maximum or minimum price the stock/index can hit during the day. e.g. a 20% circuit means a 100-rs stock can go upto 120 or fall upto 80 in a given trading day and not more than that. Some stocks that are included in F&O and are parts of BSE/NSE indices don’t have any circuit limits and can rise/fall in any percentage as per demand/supply forces. Other stocks do have circuit limits imposed, these can be 5%,10%,20%. In India we have circuits for indices also like Nifty and Sensex.http://akprabhakar.blogspot.com
I can’t understand the stock exchange board. When I see the S&P or the DOW I am at a total loss on how to interpret it.I don’t understand the numbers on the board or what they mean. I don’t know what they mean when they say ” the stock exchange dropped 400 points today… or I don’t know how to interpret the numbers and what is up or what is down.
1Â Â Â Â Â Â The S&P and the Dow are just statistical summaries of stock prices that are supposedly representative of the whole stock market in some way.

The numbers are stock prices measured in US dollars and cents. And they go up and down because the stock market is a kind of computerized auction where buyers are free to offer any prices they want and sellers are free to ask for any prices they want. A sale happens only when the bidding and asking prices coincide. And the price at which shares of a stock are sold becomes the latest price for all shares of that stock according to stock market rules.
2Â Â Â Â The S&P 500 is a value weighted index published since 1957 of the prices of 500 large cap common stocks actively traded in the United States. The stocks included in the S&P 500 are those of large publicly held companies that trade on either of the two largest American stock markets, the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. The Dow Jones average is a price weighted index computed from the stock prices of 30 of the largest and most widely held public companies in the United States.

I noticed that one of the companies has its debt listed on stock exchange and is equity is privately owned by its parent. How does this work?
1Â Â Â Â Â Â what do you mean?
the company does a debt issuance, and applies for a ticker on an exchange, which makes the offering more liquid, and may decrease the cost of the debt to some degree. this is pretty common.
ones that come to mind:
PJE – Ford
AKF – Ambac
INZ – ING Groep
etc, etc, etc.
What are some global, economical, and business factors that affect the share prices on the stock exchange? I know there is alot, but what are the MAJOR factors that affect the share market?
1Â Â Â Â Â many things can affect them.
-here are some examples. when rumors came about on washington mutual, everyone took out their money, the stock became worthless, and was bought out. that affected WAMU.
-if a company’s earnings are up, the value of the stock will also go up.
-if good news are being talked about on a company, value will go up.
-supply and demand. if more people and to buy a stock limited in supply, value will go up. if it’s the other way around, value will go down.
there’s other things that can affect it such as when a stock is being bought out or when a company is buying out another…
still many other ways..
2Â Â Â Â Â Â Demand AND SUPPLY
One of the major factors affecting stock price is demand and supply. The trend of the stock market trading directly affects the price. When people are buying more stocks, then the price of that particular stock increases. On the other hand if people are selling more stocks, then the price of that stock falls. So, you should be very careful when you decide to invest in the Indian stock market.
Market Cap
Never try to guess the worth of a company simply by comparing the price of the stock. You should always keep in mind that it is not the stock but the market capitalization of the company that determines the worth of the company. So market cap is another factor that affects stock price.
News
When you get positive news about a company then it can increase the buying interest in the market. On the other hand, when there is a negative press release, it can ruin the prospect of a stock. In this case you should remember that news should not matter much but the overall performance of the company matters more. So, news is another factor affecting stock price.
Earning/Price Ratio
Another important factor affecting stock price is the earning/price ratio. This gives you a fair idea of a company’s share price when it is compared to its earnings. The stock becomes undervalued if the price of the share is much lower than the earnings of a company. But if this is the case, then it has the potential to rise in the near future. The stock becomes overvalued if the price is much higher than the actual earning.
3Â Â Â Â jamar said it well.
Another thing to look at is the international market. Usually if the US have a bad night then the Australian stock market seems to follow the next day and vica versa.
